Road trip to Seattle

Went to Seattle on the weekend to take in a Mariners baseball game... it has been planned since the middle of March because they are/were playing the NY Yankees. Get tickets early because everybody who's anybody, is a Yankees fan, or a Derek Jeter fan or an A-Rod fan... so off we (Diana and I) go Saturday morning, arrive at the border for a one hour and ten minute wait (not bad considering the radio said it was going to be 2 hours), cross the border and then in search of any outlet mall the has my favourite store in it (Big Dogs), not at Burlington mall, then onto Seattle Premium outlet mall... big mall, lots of stores including Big Dogs, Osh Kosh and many other stores ... we satisfied our shopping needs, and then off to find "W" Hotel in downtown Seattle. If you have not driven in downtown Seattle before be prepared for a lot of one way streets. Okay, you see your hotel but have to decide on a game plan of which one way street to take to sucessfully arrive at the lobby area...we did it and low and behold, across the street from our hotel there is another hotel at which the NY Yankees are staying and just as we are arriving the players are boarding the bus to go to Safeco field, how exciting is that, Diana was overcome with emotion thinking that she might catch a glimpse of her hero (Derek Jeter), not to happen, he had already boarded the bus according to our Valet service person.... the W Hotel is kind of a high end hotel, valet parking, nice room, good service, lousy view (we overlooked a building, nice?) anyway we settled ourselves, went out in search of food ( in hindsight we could have ate at the game) ate at Quizno's and then off to see the ball game. Diana being a Yankees fan had on her Derek Jeter baseball jersey, we both bought hats, I have a Mariners hat and Diana bought a Yankees hat.... found our seats (we were maybe 15 rows from the very top of the stadium) maybe you can tell by some of the pictures, that the angle you are sitting at, you get a sense that if you stand up and lean forward you will keep going and fall onto the field. Now folks, I don't really like heights, I had to really adjust to sitting up so high and then being surronded by 44000 people of which 20000 were Yankee fans, it was going to be an interesting evening. There were some Yankee Fans that were giddy with excitement over seeing their favourite team/player, in real life...

The Seattle Mariners lost the game, those darn Yankees beat us 7 - 4 and all those darn Yankee fans went home happy and one fan even had the nerve to treat their Jeter jersey with a little loving care when putting it away for the night, yuk, hero worhip!!!!

We had a great time, shopping, the game, the hotel, all in all, it was a pretty good weekend, eh Diana!

Wow Mare, couldn't have described it better myself...you did a fabulous job getting us to our desitnation safely and I felt your frustration about the one way streets. Wish I could have been a better co-pilot. Now, as for treat my jersey with extra care and attention, i'm sure you would have done the same. Still can't believe that I was actually in the same City, Stadium etc. etc. as Derek Jeter. Wow!!! Thanks again for the most fabulous, amazing weekend...you are an awesome friend. xoxoxoxox Diana

Sounds great -- except for that wait at the border!! And at the hotel across from where the Yankees were staying . . . how fabulous is that! Glad you two had a great time . . . and what, really, was the likelihood that anyone other than the Yankees would win?? (V)
